“ZENOBIA”

A mixed media surface artist, I work mostly with strung Czech glass seed beads glued onto solid substrates. I like to adorn shapes, particularly animal shapes, in ways that us to appreciate that form in a new way.

When asked to participate, I didn’t hesitate – this form is right in my wheelhouse! Once I had her eyes done, she told me what she needed, and I listened. Heeding her ferocity, I christened her Zenobia, after the legendary warrior queen of Palmyra.

My work is so meticulous, and while I’m working, my nose is just inches away from each area I’m covering. It’s not until a piece is finished that I set it up in my living room, and sit back to study how it came together. I think this piece is one of my strongest. I hope Zenobia’s new owner will lend her back for shows – I think she’s museum-worthy.

I think of it as circles – concentric circles that connect.”
